On Tuesday, Ukraine launched its most lethal drone attack on Russia to date. Ukraine targeted 8 provinces, including the Russian capital Moscow, with 144 drones. The attack caused damage to several residential buildings. According to Reuters, around 20 drones were shot down near Moscow.
Dozens of homes have been destroyed. Due to this attack, more than 50 flights were diverted from Moscow and nearby airports. According to Russian officials, 3 out of 4 airports in Moscow had to remain closed for over 6 hours.
One 46-year-old woman was killed in the attack. Russia has also shot down 124 drones in the other 8 provinces. In retaliation, Russia launched an attack on Ukraine with 46 drones. However, according to Ukraine, it shot down 38 of these drones.
10 Days Ago: 150+ Drones Fired
Earlier, on August 31, Ukraine had launched an attack on Russia with over 150 drones. This was the first time Ukraine had used such a large number of drones against Russia in the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war, which has been ongoing for two and a half years. Ukraine had also targeted the capital, Moscow.
According to Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin, the city was attacked by 11 drones. These attacks targeted an oil refinery and a technical room. An explosion occurred at the oil refinery, followed by a thick plume of smoke.
According to Russian officials, Ukraine had attacked with 158 drones across 15 provinces. They stated that Russian air defense had intercepted and shot down almost all of the drones.
Putin Calls for Preparedness
Russian President Vladimir Putin has called for readiness to deal with any threats. Putin stated that the country’s forces should be prepared to protect the nation’s security and sovereignty. Putin was addressing soldiers participating in the Ocean-Command 2024 exercises.
The Ocean-2024 exercises involve over 400 Russian warships and submarines, more than 120 aircraft and helicopters, and over 90,000 troops.
Putin has called for readiness to repel any attacks from any direction.
Ukraine Wants to Increase Attacks Inside Russia
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky wants to increase attacks inside Russia. According to Reuters, he is pressuring the United States for help. Zelensky released a video on August 31, stating that on August 30, Russia conducted an airstrike on Kharkiv, resulting in the deaths of 6 Ukrainians and injuring 97 others.
Zelensky stated that these attacks could only be stopped if Ukraine targets Russia’s airfields and military bases. “We are discussing this with our allied countries every day and trying to persuade them,” he said.
“Need for Long-Range Missiles to Defend Ukraine”
Zelensky said, “The only way to remove Russian bombs from Ukraine’s skies is by intensifying our attacks on them. Only then will Russia consider ending the war and move towards peace. We need long-range missiles capable of striking Russia and permission to use them.”
Zelensky mentioned that his representatives have shared all necessary information with Ukraine’s allies. Earlier, on August 30-31, Ukraine’s Defense Minister Rustem Umerov met with American officials and experts in Washington.
Attack on Russia Similar to America’s World Trade Center Attack: 38-Story Building Hit by Drone, Russia Retaliates with 100 Missiles and 100 Drones
On August 26, in Saratov, Russia, a drone attack similar to America’s World Trade Center attack occurred. A drone collided with a 38-story residential building, “Volga Sky,” injuring 4 people. Russia has blamed Ukraine for this attack.
In retaliation, Russia launched the largest attack on Ukraine in the past two and a half years. Russia carried out a series of attacks on 35 Ukrainian cities simultaneously. For the first time, Russian bombers breached Ukrainian airspace and conducted heavy bombings. Previously, Russia had targeted eastern Ukraine, but this time western areas were also attacked.
