Elon Musk raises concern after alleged assassination attempt on Trump: “Why not Biden or Harris?”

Following reports of an alleged assassination attempt on former US President Donald Trump, tech billionaire Elon Musk took to social media to question why similar attempts aren’t being made against President Joe Biden or Vice President Kamala Harris, both key Democratic figures.

The incident took place on Sunday in Florida, with the FBI confirming Trump as the target. Despite the threat, the former president was unharmed, according to campaign officials and law enforcement.

The US Secret Service stated that agents opened fire on a suspect near the perimeter of Trump’s golf course. Authorities recovered an AK-47 style rifle equipped with a scope and a GoPro camera from the scene.

Responding to a post on X (formerly known as Twitter) asking, “Why do they want to kill Donald Trump?”, Musk stirred controversy by replying, “And no one is even trying to assassinate Biden/Kamala.”

Musk, a vocal supporter of Trump, has increasingly aligned himself with the former president as Trump prepares for a high-stakes election rematch against Vice President Harris in November.

According to law enforcement, there is still no confirmation whether the suspect, identified as Ryan Wesley Routh, fired a weapon towards Trump. Secret Service agents, however, did engage the suspect who was reportedly hiding in the bushes near the golf course.

“We are currently unsure if the individual managed to shoot at our agents,” said Secret Service official Rafael Barros, as reported by AFP.

The FBI is investigating the event as a potential assassination attempt on the former president, while officials commended the swift action of the Secret Service. The agency has been under heightened scrutiny after a similar incident in Pennsylvania last year, where a gunman allegedly aimed at Trump.
