Kyiv: A severe missile strike by Russia on the Ukrainian city of Poltava has resulted in at least 41 deaths and injured more than 180 individuals, according to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. The attack, which targeted a military training facility and a nearby hospital, involved two ballistic missiles.

Zelenskyy reported, “The situation is dire, with 41 confirmed dead and many more injured.” The Ukrainian Defense Ministry detailed that the missiles hit a hospital and a nearby educational institution, causing significant structural damage. The rapid strike, which followed shortly after air raid sirens, caught many off guard during evacuation, leading to extensive casualties. Rescuers have managed to save 25 people, including 11 from beneath the rubble.

Russian sources alleged the missiles were aimed at an outdoor event, while Ukrainian MP Maria Bezugla condemned the military leadership for allowing such events, suggesting they put lives at risk.

In response, Zelenskyy has called for a thorough investigation and requested increased air defense support from Ukraine’s Western allies to prevent further attacks.
