Conspiracy to Oust Sheikh Hasina Revealed: Muhammad Yunus Admits and Names the Mastermind

Nobel laureate and head of Bangladesh’s interim government, Muhammad Yunus, has acknowledged that there was indeed a conspiracy to remove former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina from power. Yunus made this admission during a speech at the Clinton Global Initiative meeting in the United States, where former U.S. President Bill Clinton and current President Joe Biden were also present.

According to a report by News18, Yunus stated in his address that it had been difficult to identify who was behind the protests that led to Hasina’s ouster. However, he mentioned the name Mahfuz Alam, suggesting his involvement in orchestrating the movement to drive Hasina out of Bangladesh. Yunus emphasized that this was not a spontaneous uprising but rather a well-planned and carefully designed effort. The movement’s leadership was built strategically, and even today, many are unaware of who was truly behind the leadership.

Who is Mahfuz Alam? During the meeting, Yunus introduced Mahfuz Alam and described him as an influential figure. He stated that although these student leaders might appear ordinary at first glance, their speeches had the power to shake the entire nation. Yunus also highlighted the violence that student leaders faced under Sheikh Hasina’s government, shedding light on the tensions that fueled the movement.

Sheikh Hasina’s Exile Yunus further expressed that Sheikh Hasina should be allowed to return to Bangladesh and face trial if she had committed any crimes. Speaking about elections, Yunus clarified that there was no fixed timeline for the upcoming polls in Bangladesh. The Dhaka Tribune reported Yunus’s comment, stating that commissions set up to bring reforms would provide recommendations in the coming months, after which an election date would be announced. He also confirmed that he has no intention of running in the elections.

Sheikh Hasina had resigned from her position as Prime Minister on August 5, 2024, after student protests gained momentum, leading to her decision to leave Bangladesh for India.
