Why Did a Father Commit Suicide Along with His Four Daughters in Delhi?

In a tragic incident in Vasant Kunj, Delhi, the bodies of Hira Lal Sharma and his four daughters were found under suspicious circumstances in their rented apartment. Hira Lal, a carpenter, had stopped going to work nearly nine months ago after the death of his wife in August last year. His family was reportedly facing emotional and financial difficulties.

46-year-old Hira Lal had worked as a carpenter at the Indian Spinal Injuries Centre for 28 years but had stopped working in January this year. On Friday afternoon, the bodies of Hira Lal and his daughters Neetu (26), Nikki (24), Neeru (23), and Nidhi (20) were found in their home.

According to a PTI report, family acquaintances mentioned that the family was deeply religious and performed daily prayers. Hira Lal was a devotee of Lord Hanuman and fasted every Tuesday. CCTV footage from September 24 showed Sharma entering the building with a packet of sweets. The police suspect that Hira Lal and his daughters consumed poison along with the sweets. While no suicide note has been found, initial investigations suggest it could be a case of suicide.

Could Black Magic Be Involved?

When asked if the family’s death could be linked to a tantric ritual, a police officer responded that they are investigating all possible angles. However, no signs of foul play or external injuries were found on the bodies.

Bodies Found in Separate Rooms

The daughters were found lying on a bed in one room, while Hira Lal’s body was found in another. The police recovered three packets of poison and several glasses with suspicious liquid from the home. Hira Lal’s sister-in-law, Gudia Sharma, shared that the daughters were well-educated and kind-hearted. “All of them had completed their graduation—one in home science, another in commerce, and two in arts. I still can’t believe they are no more,” she said.

Neeru, the eldest daughter, had lost her vision in 2016 due to medical reasons and was fully dependent on her father. “I don’t know why Hira Lal stopped working, but Neeru would often ask him not to go to work,” Gudia added.

Devout Hanuman Followers Who Avoided Garlic and Onion

Hira Lal was a devout Hanuman follower, and the family never consumed garlic or onion. After the death of his wife, Kanta Devi, the family withdrew from social interaction. Gudia mentioned that Hira Lal had become distant, and even his daughters stopped answering phone calls. She had seen him two weeks earlier at a vegetable market but was ignored when she tried to talk to him.

One TV, One Mobile

The family had a single TV, but the daughters showed no interest in watching it. They shared one mobile phone between them. Gudia also shared that Hira Lal was very protective of his daughters and didn’t want them to work outside the home. The family’s financial situation remained unclear, but Hira Lal tried to fulfill his daughters’ needs as much as possible.

Reclusive Lifestyle

The police are investigating Hira Lal’s financial status and have seized two mobile phones from the house. Neighbor Amarjeet Singh mentioned that Hira Lal rarely interacted with anyone. Many people in the neighborhood didn’t even know he had four daughters. His youngest daughter was occasionally seen outside, but the others rarely left the house. Amarjeet added that Hira Lal was often seen washing clothes and doing household chores.

The police have registered a case and are continuing their investigation into this heartbreaking incident.
