TMC MP Shatrughan Sinha Defends Mamata Banerjee Amid RG Kar Controversy

TMC MP Shatrughan Sinha has defended West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee amidst allegations related to the rape and murder case at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata. The accusations suggest that Banerjee offered money to the victim’s family, which she has vehemently denied.

In a statement on Tuesday, Sinha emphasized that holding a Chief Minister responsible for such crimes is inappropriate. He voiced confidence in Banerjee, stating, “I don’t have any reason to believe anyone else other than Mamata Banerjee.” He condemned the heinous nature of the crime but stressed that the investigation is under the supervision of the Supreme Court and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), making it improper to make further comments on the matter.

Sinha’s remarks come after Banerjee, in a recent administrative review meeting, dismissed the allegations as baseless slander. She asserted, “I have never offered money to the deceased doctor’s family; this is nothing but slander. If the family wanted to honor their daughter’s memory, our government would support them.” Banerjee also addressed the resignation offer of Kolkata Commissioner of Police, Vineet Goyal, highlighting the need for experienced leadership ahead of Durga Puja.

The controversy continues to unfold as investigations proceed, with various political figures weighing in on the matter.
