The Supreme Court will hear a suo motu case concerning the rape and murder of a female doctor on September 9

The Supreme Court will hear a suo motu case concerning the rape and murder of a female doctor at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital on September 9. According to the case list uploaded on the Supreme Court’s website for September 9, a bench consisting of Chief Justice D.Y. Chandrachud, Justice J.B. Pardiwala, and Justice Manoj Mishra will preside over the hearing. This hearing is significant in light of a recent application filed by the central government, which accuses the West Bengal government of not cooperating with the CISF (Central Industrial Security Force) deployed for security at the hospital. The Ministry of Home Affairs, in its application, has described the alleged non-cooperation of the Trinamool Congress government as a ‘sign of systemic failure’ and has requested that state authorities be directed to provide full support to the CISF.
