Prayagraj – A stone-pelting incident occurred on the Mahabodhi Express, traveling from New Delhi to Gaya (Bihar), on Monday night near Prayagraj, leaving several passengers injured. The train was halted at Mirzapur station, where the injured were treated. The Railway Protection Force (RPF) has detained three suspects in connection with the incident.
The attack happened around 9:16 PM, shortly after the train departed from Prayagraj Junction at 9:06 PM. The Mahabodhi Express had reached Prayagraj at 8:33 PM. The stones, approximately 50 to 60 in number, were thrown at the train, with some smashing through the windows of the S-3 coach and hitting passengers inside.
The locomotive pilot stopped the train as soon as he was informed of the pelting. RPF teams arrived at the scene, but by then, the train had already resumed its journey.
Recent Train Derailment Attempts in Uttar Pradesh
This incident comes just two days after an attempted train derailment near Kanpur on Sunday. A small gas cylinder was found placed on the tracks near Prempur station, located about 35 kilometers from Kanpur. Fortunately, the driver spotted the cylinder in time and applied the emergency brakes, stopping the train just 10 feet from the obstruction.
The incident occurred at 5:50 AM and involved a goods train traveling from Kanpur to Prayagraj. Upon inspection, the driver discovered a 5 kg gas cylinder placed on the tracks. The authorities were immediately alerted, and a major accident was averted.
Another near-miss occurred on the same route with the Jammu Mail train, traveling from Kanpur to Prayagraj. A loose nut and bolt on a shock absorber were spotted by a vigilant point man near Prempur station, preventing a potential accident.
Five Train Derailment Attempts in 38 Days
In the last 38 days, there have been five attempts to derail trains in Uttar Pradesh. Earlier on September 8, a cylinder was placed on the tracks on the Kasganj route in Kanpur, in an attempt to derail the Kalindi Express. Petrol and explosives were also found near the tracks in that case.
