A case has been filed against Samajwadi Party (SP) MP Afzal Ansari under Section 353(3) BNS at Ghazipur’s Kotwali police station by Sub-Inspector Rajkumar Shukla. This development follows a recent press conference in Ghazipur, where Ansari called for the legalization of marijuana sales through licensed outlets.
The Controversial Statement: During the press conference, Afzal Ansari stated that marijuana (ganja) should be legalized, as many people in Ghazipur’s monasteries and religious events use it. He went further, remarking that even a full trainload of marijuana sent to the Kumbh Mela wouldn’t be sufficient. He also claimed that influential people in Lucknow use marijuana, and thus, it should be legalized like bhang.
Political Backlash: Ansari’s statements quickly sparked political controversy, leading to the case being registered against him. It’s worth noting that this isn’t the first time Ansari has made headlines for his remarks. His previous statements have also stirred public debate.
Questioning Encounters in Uttar Pradesh: Earlier, Ansari had also raised questions regarding police encounters in Uttar Pradesh. He criticized these actions, stating that fabricating false stories to justify encounters is wrong and unconstitutional. He further commented on the ongoing legal case related to his brother, Mukhtar Ansari’s death, and mentioned that they will address this matter in court.
This recent statement by Afzal Ansari has once again placed him at the center of political discussions.
