Pune: Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the new underground Metro route from Civil Court to Swargate on September 26. The Prime Minister will also lay the foundation stone for an elevated corridor during this event.
Fadnavis made the announcement while inaugurating various development projects in Pune, thanking Union Minister Nitin Gadkari for his contributions, particularly the construction of the four-lane Sant Dnyaneshwar Maharaj Palkhi Marg and Sant Tukaram Maharaj Palkhi Marg connecting Pandharpur to Pune.
The Deputy Chief Minister stated, “The last phase of this route will commence soon, and we aim to complete the entire road. I am honoured that PM Modi and Gadkari made key decisions for the Palkhi Marg.”
In addition to the Metro inauguration, PM Modi will also perform the ‘bhumipujan’ for the extended route from Swargate to Katraj and the elevated corridor from Pimpri Chinchwad to Nigdi.
Fadnavis highlighted the growing usage of the Pune Metro, noting that during the recent Ganpati festival, approximately 3.5 lakh people utilized the Metro for immersion ceremonies. He expressed optimism about Pune’s development as a leading urban center.
Furthermore, Fadnavis mentioned a proposal to rename Pune airport after Sant Tukaram Maharaj, which will be sent to the Central government for approval, with Gadkari and Union Minister Murlidhar Mohol overseeing the follow-up.
