Kolkata Medical Case Takes New Turn as BJP Releases Controversial Video of Victim’s Family

Kolkata Case Update: The investigation into the tragic rape and murder of a doctor from RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata has become more convoluted. The arrest of only one suspect, Sanjay Roy, has not eased tensions, as a newly surfaced video of the victim’s family has stirred controversy and allegations against the Kolkata Police.

Accusations Against Kolkata Police

The victim’s family, who joined protests at RG Kar Medical College on Wednesday, have accused the Kolkata Police of mishandling the case by hastily cremating the deceased’s body. The father of the victim alleged that he was offered money by a senior police officer when the body was returned after the autopsy but refused the bribe.

West Bengal’s Women and Child Development Minister, Shashi Panja, addressed these claims at a press conference, emphasizing the government’s respect for the grieving family. She urged the federal authorities, who took over the case last month, to expedite their investigation and uncover the truth.

TMC’s Response to Allegations

The Trinamool Congress (TMC) has countered allegations of a cover-up, presenting a new video that purportedly shows the family previously expressing satisfaction with the investigation. However, the family has dismissed this video as being recorded under duress by the police after the cremation.

TMC leader Shashi Panja denounced the circulating video as fake and accused the BJP of exploiting the tragedy for political purposes. Panja expressed empathy for the grieving family and urged for a cessation of political pressure.

BJP’s Counterclaims

BJP IT cell head Amit Malviya released the video of the victim’s parents, claiming it reveals coercion by the police. According to Malviya, the family was forced to publicly deny any wrongdoing by the police in exchange for not withdrawing their case. Malviya accused Kolkata Police of attempting to cover up the crime and criticized West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s administration.

Ongoing Protests and Reactions

The death of the 31-year-old doctor has sparked nationwide protests, with junior doctors in West Bengal participating in a cease-work strike. While Minister Panja supports the doctors’ right to protest, she hopes for a resolution that allows them to resume their duties.

The West Bengal BJP has criticized the TMC for allegedly trying to suppress the case, claiming the family’s statements expose the state’s attempts to cover up the investigation.
