Indian Army Denies Reports of Chinese Incursion in Anjaw District

Itanagar, 9 Sep: The Indian Army has dismissed recent reports alleging a Chinese incursion into Anjaw district, specifically in the Kapapu area. The Army clarified that no such incursion occurred, contrary to media claims.

Army sources have confirmed that after verifying the claims made by some locals, which were reported by certain media outlets, there was no evidence of an incursion by the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) in the region. “Our forces stationed in the area have verified these claims and found them to be unsubstantiated,” a defense source stated.

This is not the first instance of alleged Chinese incursions in Anjaw district. Similar reports have surfaced in the past, often related to the Tawang sector, though there have been isolated instances in the eastern sector as well.

Notable past incidents include:

  • September 2019: BJP MP Tapir Gao claimed that the PLA constructed a temporary wooden bridge over Kiomru Nallah in Chaglagam circle. The Army refuted this claim, stating that such incidents often stem from differing perceptions of the Line of Actual Control (LAC).
  • September 2016: Reports indicated that PLA troops had entered Indian territory at Plum Post in Anjaw and set up a temporary tent. The Army and ITBP detected the intrusion, leading to the PLA’s withdrawal.
  • 2022: Two youths from Duiliang village, who went missing near the Sino-India border in Chaglagam while searching for medicinal herbs, were last seen close to the LAC. Their whereabouts remain unclear.
  • October 2018: Chinese troops reportedly crossed into Dibang Valley district and camped near the Mathu and Emra rivers.

India and China share a nearly 4,000-km border that remains largely undemarcated, often leading to incursions by both sides. China claims Arunachal Pradesh as part of South Tibet, contributing to ongoing border tensions.
