HYDERABAD: In a dramatic and troubling case, a student from Bhainsa, Telangana, was rescued by Hyderabad’s SHE Teams after being held captive and sexually assaulted for 20 days by a man she met on Instagram.
The situation unfolded when the student was coerced into traveling to Hyderabad by an Instagram friend who then confined her in a hotel room. The victim’s plight came to light when she managed to share her location with her parents via WhatsApp. Alarmed by her distress, her parents immediately sought help from the SHE Teams.
Responding swiftly, the SHE Teams traced the student’s location to a hotel in Narayanaguda. Within hours of receiving the distress call, they located and freed the victim. The accused has been charged under multiple sections of BNS, including those related to sexual assault and unlawful confinement.
In a separate incident, the SHE Teams also addressed a case involving harassment at a prestigious culinary academy in Hyderabad. A student reported ongoing abuse from classmates, which included inappropriate behavior and derogatory comments. Following a thorough investigation, legal proceedings were initiated against the perpetrators.
The SHE Teams have not only taken legal action but also urged educational institutions to strengthen their measures to protect students and prevent harassment.
This incident underscores the crucial role of specialized units like SHE Teams in tackling serious crimes and ensuring victim safety, reflecting their ongoing commitment to addressing women’s issues with urgency and efficacy.
