Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh: An FIR has been filed against Rakesh Singhal, the owner of the three-storey Harmilap building in Lucknow’s Transport Nagar area, which collapsed on Saturday evening, resulting in the deaths of eight people and injuries to 28 others.
Joint Commissioner of Police (JCP) Amit Verma confirmed that a police team is investigating the collapse, and Singhal is expected to be arrested soon. The FIR was lodged at Sarojini Nagar police station following a complaint by MK Singh, the police outpost in-charge at Transport Nagar.
Singhal faces charges under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including Section 115(2) for voluntarily causing hurt, Section 105 for culpable homicide not amounting to murder, and Section 110 for attempting to commit culpable homicide.
The building, which housed a motor workshop and warehouse on the ground floor, a medical godown on the first floor, and a cutlery warehouse on the second floor, collapsed, triggering a major rescue operation. The Uttar Pradesh government has formed a three-member committee to investigate the incident and determine the cause of the collapse.
