Dalit Woman Allegedly Raped in UP; Man Arrested and Cleric Booked for Impersonation and Assault

PILIBHIT (UP): A man has been arrested and a cleric booked in connection with the alleged rape of a Dalit woman in Pilibhit, Uttar Pradesh. The accused allegedly used impersonation to gain the woman’s trust before committing the assault.

According to Puranpur Police Station SHO Rajiv Sharma, the woman reported the incident on Saturday. She claimed that she was raped multiple times by a man named Firdaus and once by Hafiz Noor Ahmed, a cleric. The woman was reportedly intercepted by members of a local right-wing Hindu group while on her way to a hotel with Firdaus, who was then handed over to the police.

The woman told authorities that Firdaus had coerced her into going to the hotel with him. He is alleged to have posed as a Hindu Dalit to deceive her. According to the complaint, Firdaus also took her to Hafiz Noor Ahmed under the guise of seeking an exorcism, where she was raped.

Additionally, the woman accused Firdaus of recording the assault and threatening to release the video online.

Police have arrested Firdaus and are actively pursuing Hafiz Noor Ahmed. The case has sparked significant attention and calls for justice.
