Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma Discusses Implementation of Orunodoi 3.0 and National Food Security Act

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma recently convened a video conference at Lok Sewa Bhawan in Dispur to discuss the implementation of Orunodoi 3.0 and the National Food Security Act (NFSA). The meeting included Members of Parliament (MPs), Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs), and Deputy Commissioners (DCs) from across the state.

Launch Date:

Orunodoi 3.0 and NFSA will be officially launched across Assam on September 19. This rollout is part of the government’s efforts to enhance social welfare and food security in the state.

Implementation Strategy:

Sarma emphasized the need for MPs, MLAs, and DCs to provide suggestions for ensuring the successful implementation of these schemes.

Orunodoi 3.0 is designed to provide substantial income support to economically disadvantaged families. It will be linked to Aadhaar and restricted to individuals with ration cards.

Eligibility Criteria:

The annual income threshold for receiving a ration card will be set at Rs 4 lakhs.

Eligibility for Orunodoi 3.0 will be capped at Rs 2 lakhs annual income.

Operational Changes:

Polling booths will serve as the operational units for the Orunodoi scheme, streamlining access and administration.

District Level Surveillance Committees, led by DCs, will be formed to oversee the implementation process.

Local Language Advocacy:

Sarma stressed the importance of using local languages to improve public awareness and understanding of the Orunodoi 3.0 and NFSA initiatives.

Legislative Adjustments:

With changes in constituency boundaries since the last parliamentary elections, legislators will now extend their work across one or more constituencies. This adjustment aims to ensure comprehensive coverage and effectiveness of the schemes.

The Orunodoi scheme aims to alleviate financial burdens for impoverished families through significant income support, while the NFSA will reinforce food security across the state. Sarma’s directives seek to enhance the efficacy of these programs and ensure they meet the needs of the population effectively.
