A month after the rape and murder of a doctor at Kolkata’s RG Kar Hospital, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has reported difficulties in concluding the probe. A senior CBI official indicated that a lack of evidence has impeded their ability to piece together the crime. Despite the case being transferred to the CBI on August 13, no additional suspects have been named, though there are claims of multiple perpetrators.
The investigation was complicated by the demolition of a restroom and toilet near the crime scene, which the CBI suspects may have led to the loss of crucial evidence. Forensic tests have matched DNA from the victim to the primary suspect, Sanjoy Roy, and have not supported claims of a gang rape.
Additionally, the Enforcement Directorate has uncovered financial irregularities linked to Sandip Ghosh, the former principal of RG Kar Medical College, revealing alleged embezzlement and illegal appointments during his tenure. The ED has filed an Economic Case Information Report (ECIR) against Ghosh and is continuing its investigation.
