Hearing on Tirupati Laddu Controversy Today: The Andhra Pradesh High Court will hear the case regarding the Tirupati Laddu controversy today. The YSR Congress has demanded the formation of a committee to investigate allegations made by CM Naidu, despite the state government already forming a Special Investigation Team (SIT). Naidu had alleged on September 18 that animal fat-based vegetable oil and fish oil were used in the laddus during the YSR Congress regime.

Meanwhile, the Maharashtra government handed over the investigation to CID on Tuesday.
Family Alleges Custodial Beating: Thane Crime Branch had taken Akshay from Taloja Jail to Badlapur. Akshay reportedly grabbed a police revolver and fired, prompting the police to shoot him in self-defense. However, his family claims he was severely beaten in custody, and the encounter was staged to cover it up. His body was not shown to them either. The opposition has questioned how Akshay, who was handcuffed, could have fired.
3. Case Against Siddaramaiah in Land Scam to Continue, High Court Upholds Governor’s Order
The Karnataka High Court has upheld the Governor’s order allowing the case against CM Siddaramaiah in a land scam to proceed. The Governor, Thawarchand Gehlot, had granted permission to prosecute Siddaramaiah on August 16. Siddaramaiah’s petition against this in the High Court was dismissed. He is accused of submitting fake documents to the Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA) for compensation.
What is the MUDA Case?: In 1992, MUDA acquired land from farmers to develop residential areas, offering them a 50:50 scheme in which farmers received 50% of the sites or an alternative site in return. Siddaramaiah’s wife Parvati received 14 plots in South Mysuru’s posh areas in compensation. The value of the plots she received was much higher than the value of the village land they owned. This compensation was granted during Basavaraj Bommai’s government in 2022.
4. Nameplates Mandatory for Restaurant Owners in UP; Chefs and Waiters to Wear Masks and Gloves
In Uttar Pradesh, it is now mandatory for eateries to display the nameplate of the owner. The name and address of the operator, proprietor, or manager must be displayed. Police verification of all employees, installation of CCTV in the restaurant, and mandatory use of masks and gloves for employees are required. Earlier, the state government had made nameplates mandatory for all shops on the Kanwar route, but this order was stayed by the Supreme Court.
Why has the UP Government Issued the Order Again?: During the Supreme Court hearing, the UP government cited the rules under the Food Safety and Standards Act. According to sources, the government is not enforcing new rules but modifying existing ones as per the CM’s orders. After the amendments, displaying the nameplate will become a law in UP.
