In Gujarat’s Surat, tensions rose after a stone-pelting incident targeted a Ganesh pandal in the Sayedpura area on Sunday evening. The police swiftly arrested six individuals directly involved in the attack, along with 27 others accused of inciting the violence, according to Gujarat Home Minister Harsh Sanghvi.
Following the incident, authorities deployed around 1,000 police personnel to restore order. Surat Police Commissioner Anupam Singh Gehlot confirmed that necessary actions, including lathi charges and tear gas, were used in areas where the unrest persisted. He emphasized that all individuals responsible for disturbing the peace were being taken into custody.
The incident prompted protests in the area, and the government assured that strict measures would be taken against those involved. The Home Minister’s visit to the site further reinforced the commitment to maintaining law and order, with a clear warning that anyone attempting to disrupt peace would face consequences.
In a similar incident, stone-pelting was reported during a Ganesh procession in Ratlam, Madhya Pradesh, on Saturday. Authorities have launched an investigation to apprehend those responsible.
These incidents underscore the growing tensions during religious processions and the prompt law enforcement response to prevent further escalation.
