Kerala Assembly Speaker AN Shamseer has defended Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) M.R. Ajith Kumar, stating that there is no issue with Kumar meeting leaders of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), a prominent organization in India. Shamseer dismissed allegations made by Nilambur MLA PV Anvar, who had claimed that Kumar was involved in illegal phone tapping of ministers and had connections with criminal activities.
In a statement on Monday, Shamseer emphasized that the RSS is a significant entity and its engagement with officials is not inherently problematic. He described Anvar’s accusations as speculative and unfounded.
The controversy has intensified with CPM State Secretary MV Govindan asserting that no one in Kerala has the authority to obstruct an investigation. Govindan affirmed that the state government will take appropriate action against Kumar based on the outcome of the inquiry that has been initiated.
PV Anvar’s allegations have placed the CPM-led government under scrutiny. Anvar has accused Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan’s political secretary P.Sasi and ADGP Ajith Kumar of undermining public trust and failing in their duties. He alleged that Kumar was involved in phone tapping of ministers, had links to gold smuggling operations, and was implicated in serious criminal activities. Anvar has formally complained to Chief Minister Vijayan regarding these accusations.
The situation remains fluid as the investigation progresses, with political and public interest keenly focused on the developments surrounding this case.
