Second Train Derailment Attempt in Rajasthan in Two Days

Unidentified assailants attempted to derail a goods train in Rajasthan’s Ajmer district by placing two cement blocks, each weighing 70 kg, on the tracks. The incident occurred on September 8 at around 10:30 p.m. between the Saradhna and Bangad stations on the Phulera-Ahmedabad stretch of the Western Dedicated Freight Corridor.

Despite hitting the cement blocks, the train managed to continue its journey without significant damage. Railway employees reported the incident, prompting the police to register an FIR under the Railway Act and the Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act.

Upon inspection, authorities found the cement blocks broken and scattered on the tracks. The Rajasthan government has formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate the case, with potential terrorist motives not being ruled out. Ajmer ASP Deepak Kumar confirmed that the SIT was established based on the instructions of the Range IG.

Train movements on the affected tracks have since been normalized.

The incident follows a similar attempt to derail the Kalindi Express on September 7 in Kanpur, where an LPG cylinder and other suspicious items were found on the tracks. The train came to a halt after hitting the cylinder, and six people have been detained in connection with the Kanpur incident.

BJP spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia condemned the Kanpur attempt, emphasizing the government’s commitment to addressing such threats and maintaining national security.

The recent derailment attempts come less than a month after the Sabarmati Express was derailed near Kanpur, with no casualties reported. Authorities continue to investigate these incidents to prevent further disruptions and ensure passenger safety.
