In a recent address to the Indian diaspora in Texas, senior Congress leader Sam Pitroda firmly defended Rahul Gandhi against his critics, particularly the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which frequently mocks him with the nickname “Pappu.”
Pitroda praised Gandhi as a “highly educated strategist” and emphasized that he is far from the dismissive label used by his opponents. “Rahul Gandhi is not Pappu. He is highly educated, well-read, and a strategist with deep thinking on any subject,” Pitroda stated.
He highlighted Gandhi’s commitment to inclusion and diversity, stating that these values were ingrained in his education and continue to guide his political vision. “Gandhian thoughts were the core of our learning. Inclusion and diversity were not just words—they were what we lived by,” Pitroda said. He expressed concern over societal changes that undermine these values and affirmed Gandhi’s dedication to creating equal opportunities and respecting all individuals, regardless of race, religion, or language.
Pitroda also spoke on the importance of democracy, stressing that it requires active participation and vigilance. He urged people to join the Indian Overseas Congress to help improve its activities and membership diversity, emphasizing that democracy must not be taken for granted.
Rahul Gandhi is currently on a visit to the United States, participating in various interactions and engagements.
