Bhopal: In a shocking turn of events, the body of a 5-year-old girl, who had been missing for three days, was found in the water tank of her own apartment building in Shahjehanabad, Bhopal. The incident has left the neighbours enraged, accusing the police of negligence and inaction.
The girl had gone missing on Mangalvar (Tuesday) afternoon around 12 pm, when she left home to go to a nearby shop. Her family had filed a missing person report with the police, alleging that she might have been abducted. The police had registered a case of kidnapping and launched a massive search operation, involving drones and dog squads, but to no avail.
The girl’s body was found on Gyarvar (Friday) in the water tank of her apartment building, located in Bajaj Nagar, Shahjehanabad. The neighbours allege that they had suspected a closed apartment in the building and had informed the police about it, but the police did not pay heed to their suspicions.
Following the discovery of the body, the neighbours staged a protest outside the police station, accusing the police of negligence and demanding swift action against the culprits. They also alleged that the police had resorted to lathi-charge and tear gas to disperse the protesting crowd.
Meanwhile, the police have detained some employees of the Bhopal Municipal Corporation for questioning, as they were carrying out fogging in the area at the time of the girl’s disappearance. The police are also investigating the closed apartment, where the neighbours suspected the girl might have been held captive.
The incident has once again highlighted the issue of safety and security of children in the city, with parents and residents demanding stricter laws and better policing to prevent such incidents in the future.
This is a developing story. More details awaited.
