New Delhi, September 10 (PIB): Prime Minister Narendra Modi presided over the inaugural meeting of the Governing Body of the Anusandhan National Research Foundation (ANRF) today at his residence, 7 Lok Kalyan Marg. This meeting marks a significant step in reshaping India’s research and development landscape.
Key Highlights of the Meeting:
- Resource Assurance for Scientific Endeavors: The Prime Minister reassured the scientific community of the availability of resources for research. He emphasized the need to identify and address obstacles within the research ecosystem and set ambitious targets for groundbreaking research.
- Localized Solutions for Global Problems: Modi highlighted the importance of tailoring solutions to Indian needs, even when addressing global issues. He stressed that while problems may be global, their solutions must be localized to effectively meet the needs of the country.
- Enhanced Tracking and Monitoring: Modi proposed the development of a dashboard for easier tracking of research and development activities. He also emphasized the importance of scientific monitoring in the utilization of resources for research and innovation.
- Hub and Spoke Model: The Governing Body decided to launch a new program in a hub and spoke model. This initiative will pair universities at the nascent stage of research with top-tier established institutions for mentorship, fostering a collaborative research environment.
- Flexible Funding Mechanism: Researchers will be empowered through a flexible and transparent funding mechanism designed to facilitate ease of research.
- Mission Mode Programmes: The ANRF will introduce solution-focused research programs in key areas such as Electric Vehicle (EV) mobility, Advanced Materials, Solar Cells, Smart Infrastructure, Health & Medical Technology, Sustainable Agriculture, and Photonics. These initiatives are expected to support India’s progress towards an Aatmanirbhar Bharat.
- Centers of Excellence: The foundation will establish Centers of Excellence to support interdisciplinary research in humanities and social sciences.
- Alignment with Viksit Bharat 2047: The ANRF strategies will align with the goals of Viksit Bharat 2047 and follow global best practices in research and development.

- Members from NITI Aayog, and various departments including Science & Technology, Biotechnology, Scientific & Industrial Research, and Higher Education
- International experts such as Prof. Manjul Bhargava (Princeton University, USA), Dr. Romesh T Wadhwani (Symphony Technology Group, USA), Prof. Subra Suresh (Brown University, USA), and others.
