Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to embark on a visit to the United States from September 21-23, where he will participate in the 4th Quad Summit and the UN’s ‘Summit of the Future’. This visit will involve key meetings with global leaders and significant engagements with the Indian diaspora and business community.
Quad Summit in Wilmington, Delaware
The visit will begin with the Quad Summit, hosted by US President Joe Biden in Wilmington, Delaware. The summit will feature discussions among PM Modi, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, and Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida. The focus will be on regional security, Indo-Pacific strategies, and collaborative efforts in technology and climate change. This meeting will be notable as it may be the final gathering of the current Quad leaders before some potentially step down from office.
Engagements in New York City
On September 22, PM Modi will head to New York City to participate in several high-profile events. He is scheduled to address a major gathering titled “Modi & US Progress Together” at Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum, expected to attract over 24,000 attendees from the Indian diaspora.
Additionally, PM Modi will engage with CEOs of leading US-based companies to explore opportunities for collaboration in cutting-edge fields such as artificial intelligence, quantum computing, semiconductors, and biotechnology. He will also interact with thought leaders and other key stakeholders involved in the India-US bilateral relationship.
UN Summit of the Future
The visit will culminate with PM Modi’s participation in the UN’s ‘Summit of the Future’ on September 23. At this summit, he will address global challenges such as sustainable development and digital transformation. The theme of the summit is ‘Multilateral Solutions for a Better Tomorrow’. The event aims to foster new international agreements on pressing global issues and will see the participation of numerous world leaders.
India to Host Next Quad Summit
While the current Quad summit will be held in the US, India is set to host the next Quad Summit in 2025. The change in venue was made due to scheduling conflicts, as confirmed by the external affairs ministry.
The upcoming Quad summit will also focus on enhancing cooperation in the Indo-Pacific region and expanding the Indo-Pacific Maritime Domain Awareness (IPMDA) programme to the Indian Ocean, with the goal of improving monitoring of strategic waters.
Looking Ahead
PM Modi’s visit to the US underscores a continued commitment to strengthening international partnerships and addressing global challenges through collaborative efforts. The outcomes of these high-level meetings are anticipated to have significant implications for regional and global diplomacy, as well as for India’s strategic interests.
