Nurse Fends Off Gang-Rape Attempt, Injures Doctor with Blade

PATNA, September 13, 2024 : A nurse at a private hospital thwarted an attempted gang-rape by inflicting severe injuries on one of her assailants with a blade. The attack occurred at RBS Health Care Centre in Gangapur, Samastipur district, on Wednesday night.

According to police, the assailants included Dr. Sanjay Kumar, the hospital’s administrator, and two associates, Sunil Kumar Gupta and Awadhesh Kumar. All three men were reportedly intoxicated at the time of the attack. They had locked the hospital from the inside and turned off the CCTV cameras before attempting to sexually assault the nurse.

In a courageous act of self-defense, the nurse used a blade to cut Dr. Kumar’s genitals, allowing her to escape the assault. She managed to flee the hospital, hide in a nearby field, and contact the police.

Quick Police Action

Deputy Superintendent of Police Sanjay Kumar Pandey commended the nurse’s bravery and quick thinking. “The presence of mind and courage shown by the survivor is praiseworthy,” he said. A police team responded swiftly, arresting Dr. Kumar, Gupta, and Kumar. They recovered a half bottle of liquor, the blade used by the nurse, blood-stained clothing, and three cellphones from the scene.

Charges and Legal Proceedings

The three men will face charges for the attempted gang-rape, as well as violations of prohibition laws, since Bihar is a dry state. They are also accused of locking the hospital and tampering with the CCTV system to conceal their crime.

The case comes amid heightened sensitivity and outrage following the recent gang-rape and murder of a trainee doctor in Kolkata, which has spurred nationwide protests and calls for justice
