Mysore Darbhanga Express (12578) collides with goods train in Tamil Nadu

A passenger train traveling from Mysuru to Darbhanga collided with a parked freight train in Tamil Nadu’s Kavarapettai area. The collision resulted in the derailment of six coaches and left several passengers injured.

The accident occurred at approximately 8:30 PM in the Ponneri-Kavarapettai section, which is part of the Chennai (Madras) division. Railway authorities have confirmed that there were no fatalities, but a number of passengers sustained injuries. Emergency services were immediately dispatched to the scene, and visuals from the accident site show a fire in one of the derailed coaches.

According to an official railway statement, “Train no. 12578 passed Ponneri at 8:27 PM. The crew felt a strong jolt as the train entered the loop line and collided with a stationary goods train. Six coaches, starting from the engine, were derailed. There are no reported casualties, though some passengers have been injured.”

Medical relief teams and a rescue squad were quickly deployed from Chennai Central, and senior railway officials, including the General Manager of Southern Railway and the Divisional Railway Manager, are en route to assess the situation.
