At his first rally in Kurukshetra for the upcoming Haryana assembly elections, Prime Minister Narendra Modi made several critical statements:
- Congress and Reservations: Modi accused the Congress party, particularly the Gandhi family, of plotting to end reservation policies. He vowed that as long as he is in power, not even a bit of reservation will be compromised.
- Warning Against Congress Rule: Modi warned Haryana voters that if Congress comes to power, the state would face conditions similar to Himachal Pradesh, where the government struggles to pay salaries, forcing even the Chief Minister and ministers to forgo their pay.
- Allegations Against Congress: On the issue of farmers, Modi accused Congress of misleading the nation and challenged them to implement their schemes in Karnataka and Telangana. He criticized Congress for the high rate of farmer suicides in Telangana, suggesting that they bear the “sin” of farmers’ deaths. Modi highlighted that the BJP government in Haryana provides Minimum Support Price (MSP) for 24 crops.
- Upcoming Elections: The rally was attended by candidates for 23 assembly seats from six districts in Haryana’s GT Road belt—Karnal, Kurukshetra, Ambala, Panchkula, Yamunanagar, and Kaithal. The deadline for nominations was September 12, with voting scheduled for October 5 and results to be declared on October 8.
