Modi 3.0 government unveils eight high-speed corridors and ring road initiatives to reduce travel time by 60%

the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has launched eight high-speed corridor and ring road initiatives within the initial 100 days of the Modi 3.0 administration. Union Minister of State for Road Transport and Highways, Ajay Tamta, made the announcement on Friday. Key projects include the Agra-Gwalior, Kharagpur-Moregram, Dharad-Mehsana-Ahmedabad, Ayodhya Ring Road, Pathalgaon-Gumla, Kanpur Ring Road, Guwahati Ring Road, and the Nashik Phata-Khed Elevated Corridor.

These initiatives are expected to cut travel time by up to 60%, enhance traffic capacity, and lower logistics costs. They are also projected to create over 5 crore man-days of employment, which will bolster the local economy and improve industrial and commercial connectivity.

KEY INFRASTRUCTURE MILESTONES

Minister Tamta highlighted additional infrastructure advancements, including the approval of 215 kilometers of new road projects worth Rs 5,000 crore in states like Karnataka, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan. Furthermore, 219 kilometers of high-speed corridors have been completed, bringing the national total to 2,357 kilometers.

In related news, Nitin Gadkari has announced that Rs 2 lakh crore in highway projects will be approved by December.

India’s first 20-coach semi-high-speed train, the New Delhi-Varanasi Vande Bharat Express, has commenced commercial operations, with details on the schedule, route, and fares available for passengers.

The Indian Railways’ Rishikesh-Karnaprayag broad-gauge rail line project is progressing, with 11 stations under construction and 176 kilometers of tunneling completed.

To modernize toll collection, a pilot project for barrier-free tolling utilizing the Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) has been initiated. Other efforts include a cashless treatment scheme for road accident victims in Assam and Chandigarh, the rollout of the Automated Traffic Management System (ATMS) across 428 kilometers of highways, and the scrapping of 46,000 vehicles under the vehicle scrapping policy. Additionally, 12 RTO services are now available online, enhancing transparency and convenience for citizens.
