Medanta ICU Assault: Accused Watched Porn Before and After Crime, Says Police

GURUGRAM: In a deeply disturbing update in the Medanta Hospital ICU sexual assault case, police revealed that the accused had watched pornographic videos both before and after the incident. This was confirmed after examining his mobile phone’s search history.

The accused, 25-year-old Deepak, a technician at the hospital, confessed to the crime during police questioning. He was produced in court and has been sent to judicial custody.

Originally from Badhauli village in Bihar’s Muzaffarpur district, Deepak had completed his Bachelor of Science in Operation Theatre Technology from a private college between 2019 and 2022. He had been working in the ICU as a machine technician for the past five months.

Police said Deepak was known to frequently watch porn on his phone. His actions on April 6 shocked the city when he allegedly assaulted a 46-year-old air hostess, who was unconscious and on ventilator support at the time. The victim later alleged that two nurses were in the room but failed to intervene.

The case came to light when the woman, after being discharged on April 13, informed her husband about the assault. He immediately filed a complaint at Sadar Police Station.

Following the complaint, a case was registered under Sections 64 (rape) and 68 (sexual intercourse by a person in authority) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

Police Commissioner Vikas Kumar Arora quickly set up a Special Investigation Team (SIT) led by DCP Dr. Arpit Jain. After an intensive four-day search, including reviewing 800 CCTV cameras, Deepak was arrested on April 19.

The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are also examining hospital protocols and staff responsibilities in the ICU to understand how such an incident was allowed to happen.
