Anil Arora, the father of Bollywood personalities Malaika Arora and Amrita Arora, passed away in Mumbai on Wednesday. As per reports from ANI, Anil Arora allegedly died by suicide, although more information is awaited. He is survived by his daughters Malaika and Amrita, as well as his former wife, Joyce Polycarp.
ANI shared via Twitter, “Father of actress-model Malaika Arora died by suicide by jumping off a terrace. Police team is present at the spot,” according to the Mumbai Police. However, conflicting reports have emerged, with a source close to the family stating that his death was an accident. “He passed away this morning. It was an accident, not suicide, and the family is in shock as he had no known health issues,” the source revealed to PTI. The final police report will confirm the details.
Arbaaz Khan Offers Support
Actor-producer Arbaaz Khan, Malaika’s former husband, was seen arriving at her residence in Mumbai shortly after the news broke. Police officials and media personnel gathered outside the family’s apartment to monitor the situation.
Malaika’s Family Background
Malaika Arora’s parents, Anil Arora and Joyce Polycarp, separated when she was 11 years old. Following the divorce, she moved to Chembur with her mother and sister. Anil Arora, who hailed from Fazilka, Punjab, worked in the Indian Merchant Navy, while Joyce Polycarp is of Malayali Christian heritage.
Malaika has often spoken about how her parents’ separation shaped her independence. In a past interview, she mentioned, “Watching my mother rebuild her life after the separation made me value independence. I learned to be fiercely self-reliant and live life on my own terms.”
Amrita Arora, Malaika’s sister, is married to businessman Shakeel Ladak, and the couple has two sons. Meanwhile, Malaika was previously married to Arbaaz Khan for 19 years before they divorced in 2017. The couple shares a son, Arhaan, born in 2002. Malaika was also in a relationship with actor Arjun Kapoor for several years, though recent reports suggest they have parted ways.
