Kolkata – A Kolkata court has denied the Central Bureau of Investigation’s (CBI) request to conduct a narco analysis test on Sanjay Roy, the main accused in the alleged rape and murder of a trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. The court’s decision came on Friday after Roy refused to consent to the test.
The CBI had sought permission from the Sealdah court to perform the narco test, arguing that it would assist in validating Roy’s account of the events. However, the court ruled that the accused’s consent is necessary for the test, referencing a 2010 Karnataka High Court judgement that mandates such consent.
Sources indicate that while Roy had initially agreed to undergo the narco test in front of the CBI team, he later withdrew his consent before the magistrate. The narco analysis, which involves administering sodium pentothal to induce a hypnotic state in the subject, is used to extract information that may not be accessible under normal conditions.
The CBI has previously conducted a polygraph test on Roy at the Presidency Correctional Home as part of its investigation.
