On September 10, 2024, Karnataka Minister MB Patil provided important updates on the state’s railway infrastructure, focusing on the suburban railway lines and other connectivity enhancements.
Suburban Railway Progress
Minister Patil revealed that two lines of the suburban railway, extending up to 75 kilometers, are on track to be completed by December 2026. This project is a significant part of the state’s efforts to improve urban transportation and connectivity.
Hasan-Bengaluru Link Strengthening
The minister also highlighted plans to enhance the Hasan-Bengaluru railway double link line. This upgrade is crucial for supporting the state’s industries and improving access to ports in Mangaluru and Karwar.
Cost-Sharing and Circular Railway Integration
The suburban railway project is a collaborative effort between the Karnataka state government and the Government of India, with a 50-50 cost-sharing arrangement. Additionally, the state plans to integrate the suburban railway with the circular railway system proposed by the central government.
These updates reflect Karnataka’s commitment to advancing its railway infrastructure and boosting economic connectivity within the state.
