Kalindi Express Derailment: LPG Cylinder Found on Tracks in Attempted Sabotage

Kanpur, Today News – On Sunday morning, an attempt to derail the Kalindi Express was thwarted when an LPG cylinder placed on the tracks was hit by the train but did not cause a derailment. The train was en route from Prayagraj to Bhiwani in Uttar Pradesh.

According to police reports, the incident occurred in Kanpur’s Shivrajpur area around 8:20 a.m. The loco pilot noticed the cylinder on the tracks and applied emergency brakes, but the train struck the cylinder before coming to a halt. Fortunately, the cylinder was dislodged from the tracks, preventing a derailment.

At the scene, police found a bottle of petrol, matchboxes, and a suspicious bag containing a gunpowder-like substance. Following the discovery, senior officials, forensic teams, and the Railway Protection Force (RPF) launched a thorough investigation.

Additional Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) Harish Chandra explained that the quick actions of the loco pilot helped avert a potential disaster. The pilot immediately reported the incident to the guard and gateman.

In connection with the sabotage attempt, the Kanpur police have detained six individuals, including two known criminals, and have formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT). The SIT will examine if there are links to the recent derailment of the Sabarmati Express in Kanpur.

The Kalindi Express, after the incident, remained at the scene for about 20 minutes before continuing its journey. It was later stopped at Bilhaur station for further investigation. Police have also secured a DVR from a shop in Chibramau and detained additional suspects.

DCP (West) RK Singh mentioned that six teams are investigating the case and monitoring local religious groups to determine if any individuals with malicious intent were involved.

This incident marks the third such event in two weeks. On August 17, 22 coaches of the Sabarmati Express derailed after hitting an object on the tracks. The following day, a Kasganj passenger train collided with a wooden log, leading to the arrest of two intoxicated youths who had placed the log on the tracks for notoriety.
