India Extends Helping Hand: Operation Sadbhav Responds to Typhoon Yagi’s Devastation

In a testament to its commitment to regional solidarity, India has launched “Operation Sadbhav” to aid Myanmar, Vietnam, and Laos in the wake of Typhoon Yagi’s devastating impact. The typhoon, considered the most powerful storm in Asia this year, caused widespread flooding and severe damage across the three nations.

India’s swift response underlines its dedication to assisting its neighbors in times of crisis. External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, in a statement on social media, emphasized India’s solidarity with the affected populations, stating, “India launches #OperationSadbhav. Demonstrating our solidarity with the people affected by Typhoon Yagi, India is dispatching aid to Myanmar, Vietnam and Laos.”

The aid packages, strategically tailored to address the immediate needs of the affected populations, encompass a range of essential supplies:

Myanmar:

10 tons of aid, including dry ration, clothing, and medicines, were shipped via the Indian naval ship INS Satpura.

Vietnam:

The Indian Air Force deployed a military transport aircraft to deliver 35 tons of aid, including water purification items, water containers, blankets, kitchen utensils, and solar lanterns.

Laos:

10 tons of aid, comprising a generator (genset), water purification items, hygiene supplies, mosquito nets, blankets, and sleeping bags, were also transported by the Indian Air Force.

This coordinated effort showcases India’s commitment to being a responsible and responsive member of the international community. The timely deployment of aid, including essential necessities like food, clothing, and medical supplies, underscores India’s willingness to provide immediate support and help alleviate the suffering of those impacted by the typhoon.
