India Announces 50 Quad Scholarships Worth ₹4 Crore[/caption]
In a major move to foster educational and technological collaboration,
India has announced the launch of
50 Quad scholarships for students from the
Indo-Pacific region. These scholarships, valued at
$500,000 (approximately ₹4.17 crore), will support students pursuing
undergraduate engineering programs at
Government of India-funded technical institutions.
The announcement follows
Prime Minister Narendra Modi's participation in the
Quad Summit held in Wilmington, Delaware, where leaders from
Australia, India, Japan, and the United States convened to discuss strategic partnerships. Attendees included
U.S. President Joe Biden,
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese of Australia, and
Prime Minister Fumio Kishida of Japan.
Scholarship Overview and Management
The scholarships will be managed by the
Institute of International Education (IIE), a global not-for-profit organization. Starting in
2024, the program will also extend to sponsor
master's and doctoral students to pursue
STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) degrees in the United States.
According to the official statement:
"The fellowship develops a network of science and technology experts committed to advancing innovation and collaboration in the private, public, and academic sectors. It builds a foundation for understanding between Quad Fellows of one another's societies and cultures through unique programming and networking opportunities with leaders from each country."
Eligibility for Master's and Doctoral Programs
- Applicants must be at least 18 years old at the time of application.
- They must be citizens or legal permanent residents of one of the Quad countries (Australia, India, Japan, or the United States) or any Southeast Asian nation.
- Students should have completed a bachelor’s degree.
Financial Benefits
Each Quad Fellow will receive a
one-time financial grant of
$40,000 (₹33.39 lakh) to cover academic expenses. Further details about eligibility criteria will be announced soon.
