IAF Flying Officer Accuses Wing Commander of Rape; Complaint Filed

A woman flying officer in the Indian Air Force (IAF) has filed a police complaint accusing a Wing Commander of rape and ongoing harassment. The complaint was registered at the Budgam police station in Jammu and Kashmir.

The IAF has confirmed that it is cooperating with the investigation. An official statement from the Air Force indicated that the Budgam police approached the local Air Force station for the investigation, and the IAF is fully cooperating with the authorities.

According to the complaint, the alleged incident occurred on December 31, 2023, during a New Year party at the officers’ mess. The Wing Commander reportedly sexually assaulted the flying officer in his room. The victim also stated that she faced harassment and mental torture over the past two years, and had previously been discouraged from reporting the incidents.

The complaint was filed under Section 376(2) of the Indian Penal Code, which deals with rape by a person in a position of trust or authority. The victim reached out to two other women officers, who advised her to file the complaint.

The case echoes a similar complaint from 2021, when another IAF woman pilot reported sexual harassment by her Flight Commander in Jammu and Kashmir.

The IAF is currently addressing the situation and working with the local police to ensure a thorough investigation.
