“I would have given him everything if he had just asked, no need to snatch the party”: Supriya Sule on Ajit Pawar’s rebellion

In the midst of the ongoing political upheaval in Maharashtra, Supriya Sule, the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader, made a candid statement during the India Today Conclave in Mumbai. Responding to the questions about her cousin Ajit Pawar’s rebellion, she said, “If he had asked, I would have given him everything, there was no need to snatch the party.”

This statement comes after Ajit Pawar led a split within the NCP, taking several party legislators with him and joining forces with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Sule revealed that the NCP wanted to keep Ajit Pawar within the party, but he chose to leave, disrupting their lives in the process.

No Objection to Ajit Pawar Leading the Party

Supriya Sule also clarified that she never sought the leadership of the NCP and was happy to hand it over to Ajit Pawar. She said, “I never demanded the leadership of the NCP. If he had asked for it, I would have gladly given it to him. There was no need to take it by force.”

Ajit Pawar’s Role in the NCP Split

Ajit Pawar, a key figure in Maharashtra’s politics and nephew of NCP founder Sharad Pawar, caused a significant rift in the party when he broke away with several legislators. He subsequently joined the state government as Deputy Chief Minister and allied with the BJP. He is now involved in negotiations with the BJP over seat-sharing for the upcoming state assembly elections.

Sule’s statement sheds light on the strained relationship within the Pawar family and the NCP, marking a new chapter in the party’s ongoing internal struggles.

Future in National Politics for Supriya Sule?

During the Conclave, Supriya Sule was also asked about whether she is more suited for national politics. To this, she responded, “Time will tell. I believe responsibility lies on all of us, and it depends on who delivers the best results.”

This statement comes at a time when the leadership within the NCP is under scrutiny, and it remains to be seen how the party will navigate its future course amidst these developments.
