Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma took aim at Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, following Gandhi’s recent speech at the University of Texas in Dallas. Gandhi’s comments about global employment issues sparked controversy, particularly his praise for China’s economic status.
In his address, Gandhi highlighted that while many countries face employment challenges, China and Vietnam do not. He noted that historical shifts in global production from the US to countries like Korea, Japan, and eventually China illustrate China’s current dominance in global manufacturing.
Responding to Gandhi’s statements, Sarma accused him of promoting China while undermining India. “Rahul Gandhi’s comments serve to project China as a superior nation, neglecting the lack of democracy and religious freedom there,” Sarma remarked.
BJP leaders joined the criticism, accusing Gandhi of damaging India’s reputation on the international stage. BJP MP Manoj Tiwari compared Gandhi’s actions to American leaders, stating that former presidents would never criticize their own country abroad. “Rahul Gandhi’s remarks are baseless and aimed at tarnishing India’s image,” Tiwari said.
BJP spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia also weighed in, labeling Gandhi as a “part-time leader” who fails to adequately represent India. Bhatia criticized Gandhi for not addressing China’s issues and for allegedly portraying India as a weak nation.
