Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala is bracing for heavy rainfall and lightning as a depression over the Bay of Bengal continues to impact the region. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for seven districts on Monday: Alappuzha, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Kannur, and Kasaragod. The affected areas are expected to experience rainfall ranging from 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm within the next 24 hours.
On Monday morning, many districts saw light to moderate rainfall. The IMD forecasts moderate rain, between 5 and 15 mm, along with gusty winds and lightning in Thiruvananthapuram, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam, and Kozhikode.

The IMD reported that the well-marked low-pressure area in the Bay of Bengal has developed into a depression. This system is positioned approximately 270 km from Kalingapatnam in Andhra Pradesh, 210 km from Gopalpur in Odisha, and 370 km from Digha in West Bengal. It is anticipated to strengthen into a deep depression and move towards the Odisha-West Bengal coast.
By Monday noon, the depression is expected to cross the coast between Puri and Digha, subsequently moving towards Jharkhand and adjoining north Chhattisgarh over the next two days.
