Five individuals have been arrested for allegedly pelting stones at the Durg-Visakhapatnam Vande Bharat Express during its trial run on Friday evening. The incident took place around 9 pm near Bagbahra railway station when the train was returning from Visakhapatnam to Durg.
According to Praveen Singh Dhakad, Inspector of the Railway Protection Force (RPF) in Mahasamund, the stone-pelting resulted in damage to the window panes of three coaches—C2, C4, and C9. Fortunately, no injuries were reported during the incident.
The Vande Bharat Express is set to begin its regular service from Durg on September 16. During the trial run, the train had departed from Durg and passed through Raipur before reaching Mahasamund, where the incident occurred.
The quick response from a team of four RPF personnel, led by an Assistant Sub-Inspector, helped identify and apprehend the culprits. The arrested individuals have been identified as Shiv Kumar Baghel, Devendra Chandrakar, Jitu Tandi, Lekhraj Sonwani, and Arjun Yadav, all residents of Bagbahra.
The damage caused to the train has been noted, and authorities are working to ensure the safety of future journeys on the Vande Bharat Express. The incident has raised concerns about the security of trains during their trial runs, and strict measures are expected to be implemented going forward.
