Amritsar – The attackers involved in the hand grenade blast in Sector 10, Chandigarh, were preparing to escape to Jammu-Kashmir. Following their arrest and a 6-day police remand, the State Special Operations Cell (SSOC) has begun questioning the captured attacker, Rohan Masih. During interrogation, Rohan provided crucial information about their plans and connections.
Attackers’ Escape Plan
Rohan Masih revealed that he and his accomplice, Vishal from Dera Baba Nanak, had planned to flee to Jammu-Kashmir after the blast. They were promised ₹5 lakh for their operation, but Rohan has only received around ₹20,000 so far. After the attack in Chandigarh, the two reached Amritsar. Rohan had to go to Khanna for some work, but was later apprehended near a hotel in Amritsar where they had been hiding, preparing to depart for Jammu-Kashmir.
Weapons Traced to Pakistan
The SSOC has arrested Rohan under FIR No. 55, registered on the 8th of this month. According to this FIR, a pistol recovered from him was smuggled from Pakistan via drone. The SSOC had previously arrested Akashdeep Singh and Amarjeet Singh, residents of Garinda, who were in contact with Pakistani smugglers. Authorities believe that the hand grenades used in the attack were also sourced from Pakistan and may have been used by the Pakistani army.
Search for Vishal Intensified
The search for Vishal, who is still at large, has intensified. Rohan identified Vishal as his accomplice from Dera Baba Nanak in Gurudaspur. Punjab police have sealed all borders and are conducting continuous raids to capture Vishal. Sources indicate that Vishal remains in Punjab, and his escape has become increasingly difficult due to heightened police vigilance.
Connection with Happy Pashiyan
Rohan disclosed that Happy Pashiyan, a local from his village, had facilitated the grenade supply and offered financial assistance. A deal was struck for ₹5 lakh, but Rohan only received approximately ₹20,000. Rohan, a carpenter by profession, had been working in Jammu-Kashmir with his brother Joban, where he earned double the wages compared to Punjab. His association with Happy Pashiyan and Vishal led to their involvement in the attack.
The revelation of these details highlights the complexity of the attacker’s plans and their links with Pakistan. The ongoing investigation and intensified search operations underscore the serious nature of the threat and the challenges faced by law enforcement in preventing such incidents.
