CBI Arrests RG Kar Ex-Principal and SHO Over Alleged Attempt to Destroy Evidence

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested Sandip Ghosh, the former principal of RG Kar Medical College, and Abhijeet Mondol, the officer in charge at Tala Police Station, in connection with the ongoing investigation into the rape and murder of a trainee doctor at the college.

Sandip Ghosh, who was already detained for corruption, now faces additional charges of rape and murder. The CBI accuses him of complicity in the destruction of evidence following the crime. Ghosh is alleged to have ordered a demolition of the area soon after the murder, which disrupted the investigation.

Abhijeet Mondol, the officer in charge at Tala Police Station, has been arrested for alleged involvement in delays and discrepancies in the FIR registration and evidence handling. Mondol is accused of attempting to suppress information and misleading the investigation. He has provided inconsistent statements during multiple interrogations.

The case has seen significant delays, including the late registration of the FIR. The complaint by the victim’s parents was filed by 6:00 pm on August 9, but the FIR was registered only around 11:45 pm after the post-mortem. The CBI has also reported that the crime scene was altered, complicating the investigation.

The arrests have been met with approval from protesting junior doctors, who have been advocating for strict action against those involved in evidence tampering. They expressed satisfaction with the CBI’s actions and called for further arrests of other individuals implicated in the case.

Sandip Ghosh is also facing a money laundering case overseen by the Enforcement Directorate, which is linked to a CBI FIR.

The investigation continues as the CBI seeks to address the complex issues surrounding this high-profile case.
