An attempted derailment of a goods train was narrowly averted in Rajasthan’s Ajmer district when unidentified miscreants placed cement blocks on the tracks. The incident occurred late on September 8, around 10:30 p.m.
The Ajmer-Ahmedabad train’s engine struck the cement blocks, which were reportedly 70 kg each, breaking them into pieces. Fortunately, the train managed to pass through without derailing. The loco pilot promptly informed the railway police, who arrived at the scene and conducted an inspection.
Police found two broken cement blocks on the tracks. One was located about a kilometer from the initial block. The incident took place between Saradhna and Bangad stations on the Western Dedicated Freight Corridor, along the Phulera-Ahmedabad stretch.
A case has been filed, and authorities are investigating the matter and searching for those responsible. This incident follows another recent attempt to derail a train; on September 7, the Kalindi Express was targeted in Kanpur by placing an LPG cylinder, a bottle of petrol, and matchboxes on the tracks.
This is part of a troubling pattern of incidents. On August 23, the Ahmedabad-Jodhpur Vande Bharat train collided with a cement block, causing a significant delay. On the same night, an unknown person was reported for placing cement blocks on the tracks between Jawai and Birolia in Sumerpur, which halted the train for eight minutes. Additionally, on August 28, a motorcycle chassis was found on the tracks in Baran district, and an accident was avoided only due to the driver applying emergency brakes.
Authorities continue to investigate these events and are on high alert to prevent further attempts to disrupt train services.
