MUMBAI: Veteran actor Anupam Kher has found himself at the center of an unusual incident involving counterfeit currency. In Gujarat, counterfeiters decided to feature his image on fake ₹500 denomination notes valued at ₹1.6 crore, instead of the iconic Mahatma Gandhi.
The fraudulent activity came to light when two unidentified men duped an Ahmedabad bullion trader using these fake notes. Notably, the counterfeit notes bore the label “Resole Bank of India,” a clear misspelling of the legitimate “Reserve Bank of India.” Images of these fake notes quickly went viral on social media, eliciting a mix of shock and amusement from the public.
Anupam Kher himself reacted to the incident with humor. He shared a news clip about the counterfeit currency bust on his Instagram and captioned it, “My photo instead of Gandhi’s photo on the note of five hundred???? Anything can happen.”
Kher, known for his remarkable contributions to Indian cinema, made his acting debut in Mahesh Bhatt’s film Saaransh. He has portrayed a wide range of characters in both leading and supporting roles, earning critical acclaim. His accolades include two National Film Awards, and he was honored with the Padma Shri in 2004 and the Padma Bhushan in 2016 for his contributions to the arts.
On the professional front, Anupam Kher is set to appear in Kangana Ranaut’s directorial venture Emergency, which is based on former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. The film has faced several controversies regarding its censor certificate, resulting in multiple delays in its release.
