Accused Arrested in Murder of Punjab AAP Leader, Revenge Over 2019 Clash

In a significant development, the Punjab Police have arrested Ranjit Singh, 63, in connection with the murder of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Tarlochan Singh D C. The incident occurred in Ikolaha village, Ludhiana district, where Tarlochan was shot dead on Monday.

Ranjit Singh, who is also from Ikolaha, was identified as the primary suspect. According to Khanna Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Ashwini Gotyal, Ranjit held a grudge against Tarlochan due to a personal conflict from 2019. During that altercation, Ranjit claimed that his turban and beard were disrespected by Tarlochan, and he also suffered a wrist injury.

Ranjit Singh confessed to the police that he had harbored a deep-seated resentment towards Tarlochan ever since that incident. On Monday, he ambushed Tarlochan on his two-wheeler and shot him with a .32 bore revolver, resulting in three bullet wounds, including one to the head.

The police have recovered the revolver, three live bullets, and the two-wheeler used by Ranjit. In addition to Ranjit Singh, two other suspects, Kulwinder Singh and Jatinder Singh, have been implicated based on statements from the deceased’s son, Harpreet Singh Happy. Harpreet Singh has alleged that Ranjit, along with Kulwinder and Jatinder, conspired to murder his father.

An FIR has been registered at Sadar Khanna police station under various sections of the Indian Penal Code and Arms Act. The case is currently under investigation.
