ten people lost their lives and three others were seriously injured when a speeding truck collided with a tractor trolley on the Prayagraj-Varanasi highway near Kacchwa in Mirzapur district late Thursday night.
The tractor trolley was carrying laborers who were returning to their homes in Varanasi after completing rooftop work in Bhadohi. The incident occurred around 1 a.m. on Friday, according to Mirzapur Superintendent of Police, Abhinandan.
All of the deceased, except for one whose identity has yet to be confirmed, were residents of villages under the Mirzamurad police station in Varanasi. The victims have been identified as Bhanu Pratap (25), Vikas Kumar (20), Anil Kumar (35), Suraj Kumar (22), Sanohar (25), Rakesh Kumar (25), Prem Kumar (40), Rahul Kumar (26), Nitin Kumar (22), and Roshan (27).
The injured, Aakash (18), Jamuni (26), and Ajay Saroj (50), were rushed to Banaras Hindu University (BHU) hospital, where their condition is reported to be stable. The bodies of the deceased have been sent for post-mortem examination as the investigation continues.
The accident is a somber reminder of the dangers on highways, particularly due to speeding vehicles.
